| "A
good recording ( and ultimately a successful release) is the
right collaboration of writers, arrangers, musicians, artists,
mixers and engineers. All play an integral role on the impact
of the project. I have always been enthusiastic about my position
in the process because quite frankly, I'm virtually the "last
creative stop" in the post-production process. Though
mastering is last, it is by no means least. Since I have not
been involved in the project until the end, I afford a"fresh"
set of ears, and a perfectly controlled listening environment,
apart from the recording studio, where producers and artists
can critique and fine tune their project. I like to preview
the project on various speaker types that represent the home,
club or car scenarios. I am not surprised when often times
a client will hear idiosyncrasies in my mastering room that
he/she never noticed during recording and or mixing. Often
times I can address the problems, but sometimes, remixing
may be the only answer. In any case the client leaves Trutone
a firm believer in the art of mastering and the necessity
of it.
After
previewing the mix, I experiment with various enhancement
strategies and demo this via an A/B comparison between the
original source and the enhanced version. It is vital to get
the client's feedback as there are a multitude of equalization
and compression options available. I especially enjoy experimenting
with my Pultec and Fairchild analog tube equalizers. They
afford a rich, warm, dramatic effect which cannot be attained
with digital or solid state processors. I look forward to
the opportunity of working with you on your next release!"
